GRAU DATA and contac Datentechnik start replacement program for SAM/FS.

Schwaebisch Gmuend, March 19, 2020 – contac Datentechnik and GRAU DATA signed a strategic partnership in February 2020. The system integrator from Ilmenau and the specialist for archiving and data management from Schwaebisch Gmuend offer companies a replacement program for SAM/FS (Storage Archive Manager / Filesystem), an outdated and discontinued archiving solution that is still used in various high-end environments is in use.

Contac Datentechnik and GRAU DATA offer the current OpenArchive solution. The open source software enables secure and efficient archiving of large amounts of data. OpenArchive works with file system-based HSM methods and manages the archive structure so that every file is saved at the lowest possible cost and reasonable recall times.

For companies that need to manage and archive extremely large amounts of data with even higher availability, the two companies offer an upgrade option on XtreemStore. The extremely highly scalable object storage eliminates the limitations of classic hierarchical storage management (HSM) in traditional file systems and archives data locally or in the cloud on disk and tape media via an S3 interface.

“The archiving of large amounts of data must also meet the growing requirements and new technology trends, such as the cloud. With our solutions, companies have the opportunity to benefit from these developments in the high-end area too,” says Herbert Grau, CEO of GRAU DATA. “With our partner contac Datentechnik, customers have a very competent system integrator and specialists at their side who optimally support the customers in converting and operating modern archive solutions.”

“Many of our customers need powerful and above all, flexible solutions for archiving. With the hardware-independent solutions from GRAU DATA, we can optimally respond to the individual wishes and requirements of our customers and replace obsolete, sometimes proprietary software,” says Detlef Jahn, CEO of contac Datentechnik.
